One Of The World's Top Wines - Te Motu Vineyard
Seldom to vineyards of such recognition and world acclaim for their Bordeaux-styled wines come to the market. However it is the end of an era and the "Godfather of the Export Wine Industry", Terry Dunleavy is wishing to pass the baton to a new owner who can see still greater international opportunities for Te Motu's classic reds.

The Dunleavy family first planted Te Motu Vineyard in 1989. Together with his sons Paul and John and some other family and friend shareholders, Terry established Te Motu with the goal of producing New Zealand's best Cabernet Sauvignon dominant red wine, modelled on the great Bordeaux.

The 11.4ha property has approximately 6ha already planted with 25,000 or so vines. There is still ample scope for further plantings to total close to 10ha of vineyard. Cabernet Sauvignon is dominant at around 60%, Merlot 25%, Franc 6%, Syrah 6% and Malbec 3%.

Located on Onetangi Road on Waiheke Island, approximately 1km from beautiful Onetangi beach, 6km's from Oneroa village and Matiatia ferry to Auckland, and close to the Waiheke Country Club Golf Course, Te Motu is also adjacent to the world renowned Stonyridge Vineyard and borders the soon to be developed Langham Place Vineyard 80 room five-star resort. Improvements on the property include the 25,000 (approx) plant vineyard, three bedroom vineyard workers cottage, winery and barrel room, impelement shed, shelter belts, water dam and irrigation.

The superior characteristics that develop with the Dunleavy style of winemaking speak for themselves and Te Motu has won some marvelous accolades including two Gold Medals at the London International Wine Challenge.

When the highly reputable "La Bottin Gourmand" in France compared new releases of the worlds best Bordeaux styles for its millennium edition Te Motu was the only wine from New Zealand or Australia to make the list and was ranked 13th in the World.

When wine Spectator rated 300 wines in it's biggest review of New Zealand's best, in an 8 page article "Rising Stars", Te Motu was rated New Zealand's best red of all varieties, 2 points clear of over 100 wines in a 3 point range.

When Hugh Johnson OBE; Stephen Brook; Neil Beckett; Michael Edwards; Godfrey Spence; Jamie Goode; and Jesus Barquin selected the wines for "1001 Wines You Must Try Before You Die", Te Motu was unanimously deemed to be a notable inclusion.

The vineyard at Onetangi together with all winemaking associated equipment and buildings as well as the renowned Te Motu brand are offered for sale as a "going concern"
